Its finally over, in a good way actually. To be honest, it's not always I have contact with an Autism Child and to be honest I am definitely anxious approaching my practicum.
But with the help of my team mates and the help of the centre teachers it was really a smooth transition and I am really humble with the opportunity given to work wonderful Children with Disability. I am glad to have this opportunity to plan with wonderful Teammates like Claron, Sashi and Si Ming.
During our first observation before our practicum, we realise that the students don't really communicate with each other but only with their teacher or trainer.
With this as our focus, our objective is to introduce communication between them. And what better way to do it with Inside Out movie characters. we started our practicum with Joy, Anger and Sad. Together we called it The Emotional Party.
We introduce music and rhythm in understanding emotion, follow by action and words. The students really had so much fun playing out the characters emotion.
During our sharing session right after our last practicum, I learnt that we a benefitting the students as we are sort of introducing them not only engagement with other people but also to protect themselves. I do hope tey won't use it against their teacher though.
I am just glad in a very short duration of time within 2 practicum, the team I am with have contributed to the well being of a child with autism.
